John 3:16 is often called the Gospel in miniature — the whole story of God's love compressed into a single sentence. It begins with the greatest subject, God; moves through the greatest act, gave; names the greatest gift, His Son; and ends with the greatest promise, everlasting life.
Jesus spoke these words in the dark of night to Nicodemus, a religious leader searching for the kingdom. In them we find an invitation that has echoed for two thousand years: that love has already reached us, and life is already held open.
Father, thank You for loving the world so completely that You gave Your only Son. Help me to believe, to receive, and to live in the light of everlasting life. Amen.
